Old Loft Apartment Tour

After my crazy whirlwind move to Richmond, I moved into a small loft apartment near the Shockoe Slip (aka downtown Richmond).  I'm pretty sure my apartment building was an old warehouse, probably tobacco.  I had HUGE factory windows that looked out onto a beautiful bar parking lot... wait... what? Okay so it wasn't exactly a beautiful view but it was great for some late night Saturday people watching as the bar let out.  Saw a few fights and a few people get arrested.  No big deal.  Anyways, it was perfect for just me.

The kitchen was a galley kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steal appliances and a washer/dryer.  Yup, thats what I said.  My "European Washer/Dryer"  was smack dab in the middle of my kitchen.  It was a good washer/dryer but I wouldn't recommend it for a house that has more than 1 person in it.  It was small and took about 4 hours to go through one cycle.  The one really great thing about it was I could throw clothes in before I left for work and when I got home they were clean and dry... and wrinkly as can be.

Kitchen right as you walk in the front door.  The port hole looking machine was the "European Washer/Dryer."  Directly to the right was the ladder up to the loft.
Yes.  I had to climb up and down this ladder everyday.  Let's just say Friday/Saturday nights were a trick.  Actually more like Saturday/Sunday morning were worse.

My Living Room/Dining Room/Closet/Desk/Everything room was absolutely perfect.  It was a huge open space with the highest ceiling ever, amazing exposed brick wall and the biggest windows.  It was beautiful and the whole reason I chose this apartment.  I painted the entire apartment a very light blue/grey since when they did touch ups after the previous tenant moved out, the used a slightly different color and you could see spots EVERYWHERE.  It drove me nuts.

Living Room not too long after I moved in, clearly cause there's no lamp shade on the lamp...

This was a few months before I moved out.  In this picture it looks like there is a lot of room between the couch and "fireplace" but in reality there was just barely enough room to walk by.

This was the built in desk area.  I didn't use the desk much but the storage was great.  Directly to the right of the desk was a door to the closet.

Again this was not too long after I moved in.  Notice there's no chairs around the Dining Room Table shoved against the wall on the left. (You can kind of see the bar out the window in this picture)

Above the Kitchen was the tiny loft.  Literally all I had up there was a mattress on the floor. The reason for just a mattress? Oh, that's because you couldn't stand.  You had to hunch over and kind of waddle around.  It was awkward, but again worked fine for just me.

My mattress on the floor.

Here is my fake fireplace.  I had never seen anything like it.  It had fake longs and when you turned it on a red light flickered behind the logs and a fan blew out air that you could control the temperature on.  It was different to say the least!  And yes, that is Gibbs from NCIS on my teeny tiny TV.  Scott gave me NCIS DVDs for my birthday and I watched them constantly while I was moving in and didn't have cable just yet.

Here is the view from the desk area.. again right when I moved in and there were no dining chairs.

And here is the view a few months before I moved out.  I actually ended up painting that Ikea table black at some point.  Oh and dying the slip cover a neon blue (on accident) and then eventually bleaching them back to white.

Well there you go! My my first big girl apartment! I loved every minute of living there and really do miss it sometimes even though I also love my new apartment.  And yes, I did cry a little when I left it for the last time.  This is just such a depressing view...

My DIY obsession hadn't kicked in much when I lived here.  Except for maybe the blue and yellow paintings.  I didn't have much space and knew it was temporary, so I didn't feel the need to fill it.  My obsession really started when we moved... oh and I discovered Pinterest, the love of my life (sorry Scott).
